What does Thomson Reuters Labs do? We experiment, we build, we deliver. We support the organization and our customers through applied research in informational retrieval and natural language processing. We work closely with product and domain experts to identify compelling solutions at the intersection of user need and technical feasibility. Our team is designing the next generation of search technology for Legal and Tax Professionals globally. We drive AI innovation for Thomson Reuters’ core research products, including Westlaw, Practical Law, and Checkpoint. 

 

About the Role 

 

As an AI/Search focused Technical Product Manager, you will drive design and implementation of the technology we develop to prototype, evaluate and monitor robust search applications. This team builds customer-facing solutions, primarily for information retrieval use cases in the legal research domain. Product and subject matter experts are deeply integrated at every stage of the AI development lifecycle – from content creation to algorithm design, evaluation and product insights. The goal is to design systems and processes that facilitate this collaboration and continuously improve our approach to human-in-the-loop technology development. 

 

As an AI/Search Technical Product Manager, you will:  

  

  • Own the roadmap for internal tooling that enables highly efficient, reliable evaluation of search and related Gen AI features.  

  • Work with stakeholders to define scope, determine feasibility, and translate business/customer objectives into technical requirements for customer facing human-in-the-loop applications. 

  • Partner with leadership to create resource plans, ensure effective cross-team collaboration, and drive execution around product delivery. 

  • Communicate and provide technical guidance to partner product teams, as appropriate, throughout the model development lifecycle.  

  • Balance factors such as cost, time to market and resourcing to optimize iterative value delivery for customers. 

 

 

About You 

 

You’re a fit for this role if your background includes: 

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, ML or a related field  

  • Proven track record in technical product development, with a focus on applied AI research and end-to-end delivery of AI, search, or Gen AI products.  

  • Experience with search evaluation methodology and practice (e.g., A/B testing, test collection development, optimizing search experiences for different information needs) 

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex information clearly to diverse audiences and articulating a compelling strategic vision.  

  • Experience with agile project management and scrum methodologies.  

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, utilizing data and statistics to inform decisions.  

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (ML science, Engineering, UXR, Design, Marketing) to balance trade-offs in technologies and execution strategies.  

  • High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously with minimal supervision.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations: Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $100,900 - $187,300. The base compensation range in other locations may vary. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
