As a Data Product Manager Lead within the Enterprise Data Office, you will be a key leader in the Operating Groups tower, driving Capital Group’s competitive advantage globally by advancing our foundational data excellence. You will spearhead the development of data products to create reusable, trusted, and cohesive data assets. We’re seeking an ambitious, creative, attentive, and resilient product leader capable of solving challenging and broad data problems, collaborating with a variety of stakeholders across business, technology, operations, privacy, and risk. The role is based in Southern California, with occasional travel between our Los Angeles and Irvine offices.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Product Innovation and Roadmaps
Establish data products vision to deliver near-term value and lay the groundwork for rapidly developing future uses.
Lead a team of data product managers and engineers through the co-creation of high-quality, ready-to-use data that people across the organization can easily discover, understand, access, and apply to different business challenges.
Help establish success measures aligned to desired business outcomes and vision.
Data Product Planning and Development
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to mature the Operating Groups Data Products in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
Help align on reusable data features including documentation of data requirements, data calculations & transformation logic, SLAs, data flow/lineage, data quality expectations, data ownership/stewardship requirements.
Steer data product agile teams to accelerate iterative delivery of tangible data assets.
Launch and Operations
Ensure successful transition and adoption of data products with development and operations teams.
Enable post-launch operational metrics, Knowledge Base documentation, and timely resolution of production issues.
Measure ongoing use and value of the data products and incorporate user feedback for enhancements.
Data Excellence Evangelism and Engagement
Help evangelize and promote data product management across Capital Group to recognize the power of treating data like a product to unlock its full potential.
Mature our data product playbooks, cultivate a team culture with bias to action, and nurture working relationships with Investment Group Product, Technology, Business Transformation Services, Architecture, Data Governance, and InfoSec teams.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in data analysis, transformation techniques, visualization tools, and query languages such as SQL or Python.
Familiar with different data architectures (operational analytics, reporting) and data platforms (data warehouse, data lakes, access patterns, etc).
Well-versed in preparing and managing data for a variety of reporting, analytics, and AI/ML applications.
Business Acumen:
Experience in the Financial Services industry, preferably in Investment Management.
Familiar with industry data models and data providers such as Morningstar, MSCI, FactSet, Bloomberg, and S&P Global.
Strong knowledge of key data concepts such as Portfolio Construction, Security and Account Reference data, AUM, Investment Results/Attribution, Index/Benchmark, etc.
Appreciation for a highly regulated environment, and adherence to compliance and privacy regulations.
Experience with Data Governance to align on data definitions, methodologies, and usage.
Product Management:
A self-starter with experience analyzing and understanding customer needs and translating those needs and requirements into product features and solution alternatives, applying critical thinking to enable trade-off conversations and decision-making.
Practical experience with design thinking methods, rapid prototyping, user research, and MVP development to drive product innovation.
Leadership:
You are a respected people leader with a demonstrated commitment to developing and coaching a high-performing team.

You have a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, or related fields, or have an equivalent level of experience in these or related fields.
Minimum 4 years of experience in product management– having delivered multiple products from inception to production and operational maintenance.
You have a track record of developing and coaching talent.
You have managed a function before and are adept at institutionalizing and maturing standards, templates, policies, and best practices.
Southern California Base Salary Range: $166,551-$266,482
In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital’s annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
