Accurate, timely, and useful data is the key for Top Hat’s mission to help educators be better teachers and students be better learners. We’re looking for a Technical Product Manager to lead our Data Platform team and make our dream of truly personalized educational experiences a reality, one step at a time.

This role involves working closely with engineering, analytics, data science and other cross-functional teams across the business to ensure the platform meets the needs of our internal and external users. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data management, a deep understanding of product development, and a passion for delivering impactful data solutions.

You Will:

  • Support our engineering team in building a robust, scalable and secure data platform that serves as the foundation and source of truth for the business

  • Lead the development of data-differentiated product offerings for both internal and external customers, and encouraging and enabling other teams to do the same

  • Develop a long-term strategy for our data product offerings, including exploring potential integrations with 3rd party ecosystems and uncovering new opportunities to drive revenue

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and communicate a clear vision and strategy for the data platform, aligning with overall business objectives

  • Define product goals, KPIs, and metrics to measure success and drive continuous improvement

  • Create and maintain a detailed product roadmap, prioritizing features and improvements based on business value, user needs, and technical feasibility

  • Manage the product lifecycle from concept through development, launch, and ongoing enhancements

  • Validate features through testing and user feedback, and iterate based on findings

  • Amplify the impact of other teams by empowering them with the right data to truly personalize the product experience

  • Ensure the platform supports robust data governance, security, and compliance requirements

  • Collaborate with data engineers and architecture to optimize data integration, quality, and accessibility

  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization to gather requirements, provide updates, and align on priorities

About You:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a technical field.

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in product management, with a focus on data platforms and scalable solutions. Experience in developing data-driven platforms for personalized experiences across various channels and managing large-scale data workflows is a must. Experience in building systems that orchestrate and execute complex data workflows is a must.

  • Agile & Experimental Mindset: Embraces a truly agile dev environment, building products in small experimental iterations to deliver value as quickly as possible, measuring its performance and using the results to inform next steps

  • Data & Analytical Prowess: Highly curious and analytical mindset. Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Python, Tableau) is a must.

  • Technical Skills: Familiarity and experience with application development is a must. Can discuss technical concepts with ease, identify trade-offs in different approaches, and uncover new opportunities to create customer value in close collaboration with engineers and architects. Strong understanding of data architecture, ETL processes, data warehousing, and analytics tools is preferred. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.

  • Complex Problem Solving Skills: Experience managing large, complex technical problems with many dependencies by breaking big problems into many smaller, prioritized problems

  • Communication Skills: Can persuade and galvanize others behind the product and vision, explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences, and guide with empathy to find clarity through ambiguous situations.
