Department Overview
Data Management & Analytics organization is responsible for guiding the acquisition, management, quality, and access of PG&E’s electric asset data. The team’s objective is to maximize the use of and ensure the trustworthiness of PG&E’s critical electric data assets and includes the development of analytic and situational intelligence tools that leverage this critical data.
The Technical product management team within DM&A leads product teams to deliver high impact applications across multiple functional areas. Current and past projects include:
Integrated Planning Undergrounding Tool Development: Supporting the strategic selection and scoping of one of the largest PG&E’s programs, the 10k miles Undergrounding
Epic 3.20: Using machine Learning to predicting electric distribution equipment failure
EV Flexible Load Analysis: strategic forecast of our electric grid's ability to serve 3M additional connected Electric Vehicles by 2035
Geospatial Electrification Tool: Identifies the best places to transition current gas customers to all-electric power

Position Summary
The Expert Technical Product Manager within the DM&A Product Management organization plays a central role in managing the client centered delivery of Electric data products that reduce risk and improve operations. In this role you will work as part of cross functional teams, including developers, data scientists, technology experts, and subject matter experts to develop solutions and enable data driven decision making efforts.
This position will be primarily supporting digital tool development for P&GE’s System Hardening and Undergrounding program. PG&E is upgrading our electric system by installing stronger poles and covered powerlines and burying 10,000 miles of powerlines in the highest wildfire risk areas. This system hardening work is one of PG&E’s largest programs and is helping to reduce wildfire risk, improve reliability during severe weather, decrease the need for future tree work, and protect the environment.
The current tools/suite of products are based in Foundry and integrate multiple data sources such as wildfire and reliability risk models to increase scale and transparency of back-office activities including the 10K portfolio selection, scoping, & portfolio management through a common technology platform.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $144,000
Bay Area Maximum: $244,000
Job Responsibilities
Project Management:
Leads complex or major projects with high corporate or functional priority. Typically, between $1,000,000 - $10,000,000.
Plans all associated work to meet project goals and develops metrics, procedures, objectives and methods to assess project progress
Monitoring critical project milestones, and identifying ways to Solve and document roadblocks the project team faces as part of continuous improvement efforts
Strategy Development:
Develops and drives clear product vision, strategy, and roadmap in partnership with Business Sponsors and Owners.
Provides alternatives and recommendations that impact achievement of program goals.
Works with leadership to continually improve analytics at PG&E via demonstrations, mentoring, disseminating best practices, etc.
Product Delivery:
Transforms product strategy into well-articulated business requirements, as well as using qualitative and quantitative data effectively to inform product direction and prioritization.
Uses waterfall, agile (SAFe), and hybrid approaches to determine the operating model that works best for the project and team.
Owns end-to-end feature delivery, including working with user experience on prototypes, creating and prioritizing user stories, analyzing user data to drive decision making and documenting delivery of releases.
Reviews all product deliverables to assure the offering is complete and meets customer and operational needs
Provides product feedback and customer insight to support product development.
Leadership and Communication:
Leadership through influence rather than organization structures. Proven ability to motivate, lead, and collaborate within product team, including cross-functional product development teams and manage interactions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to handle both executive-level discussions as well as functional / technical deep dives.
Support the development of external communications explaining PG&E’s analytical capabilities, current project portfolio, vision for the future, and relevant policy positions
Often serves as a technical coach, trainer, or mentor for others.
Acts as lead on cross-functional projects/initiatives
Technical:
Develops solutions applying deep knowledge of Electric Systems, Data Management principles, and technical architecture.
Understands principles of technical/engineering fields such as data engineering and software development, and is able to troubleshoot issues with technical team members
