Job Description:

The Digital Innovation (DI) Product Manager supports the lifecycle of a digital product & service portfolio that improves customer experience and equipment performance to build customer trust, engagement, loyalty, value, and partnerships. They partner with BW Business Units, Divisions, and product lines to define product scope, manage product development projects, collect and prioritize user acceptance and feedback, and support the engineering team with road mapping and product direction. This position is ideally suited to an energetic, empathetic and intellectually curious individual who will be part of a collaborative, purposeful, passionate, and customer-centric team in the manufacturing industry operating with agility and leveraging modern systems & processes.

The role is expected to be part of a high performing Enterprise DI product and program management team that ensures the DI portfolio is aligned with our internal and external customers’ needs, solves their pain points, unlocks value, and continuously improves to sustainably deliver on market and user requirements.  They will support the business case, design, compliance, feature development priorities, product messaging, pricing, reliability, metrics, and value assessment to ensure the solutions deliver value and enable new/improved BW product & service revenue offerings.

This customer-centric role deals with technically complex digital products & services and is expected to understand how the software is built, cogently participate in discussions on the right technology approach, and correctly understand how current engineering decisions can impact our ability to meet future customer requirements.  Solutions will be deployed to both the cloud and industrial equipment edge devices enabling secure & seamless integration between field equipment and enterprise business systems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): 

  • Help BW stakeholders define, document & prioritize product requirements, features & enhancements per customer needs, market trends, competitive analysis that unlock & capture compelling new business value.
  • Conduct qualitative & quantitative research to develop a good understanding of the customer's needs, new technologies, market trends, and competitor capabilities to inform product design, messaging & positioning.
  • Partner with new equipment/parts/service sales & marketing teams across BW Divisions to create and align on go-to-market strategies, positioning, branding, messaging, and marketing collateral driven by differentiated free & tiered value propositions that drive engagement, retention, and new revenue sources.
  • Establish & maintain positive, collaborative working relations with BW business executives, sales, product & engineering teams, operational users & customers.
  • Shared ownership of customer engagement and success of the portfolio of digital products & services, along with their value-adding impact on customers and more broadly, BW’s business goals.
  • Design, document, and adhere to industry best practice product and program management process mechanisms and governance including information gathering, training, and metrics to ensure projects are actionable and deliver long-term product value and business success.
  • Work closely with DI development & data engineering teams to co-own the product development process from conception to timely delivery, ensuring high-quality intuitive products per specifications with user acceptance testing & on-boarding documents to maximize adoption of user-friendly customer facing DP&S.
  • Help develop and maintain clearly defined, transparent DI product portfolio releases & roadmap aligned with business requirements, priorities, customer value, technology maturity & commercial viability that maximizes adoption of common solutions to shared problems whilst minimizing technical debt and inefficiencies.

Job Specifications:

Market / Customer Understanding & Synthesis

  • Develop deep understanding of BW’s diverse set of internal and external customers at operational and executive levels, their needs, the business landscape, product functionality and technologies.
  • Conduct market research analysis, usability studies, & surveys with designers, developers, research teams & customers to validate latest customer needs, pain points, emerging industry trends, technologies, competitive offerings, opportunities, & potential threats. Refine product features, positioning, & market fit accordingly.

Engineering Team Support

  • Work with DI Engineering to translate requirements into functional user stories, specifications, and designs.
  • Work with DI Engineering to support live production systems, including triaging and prioritization of alarms, tickets, and support requests by order of impact.
  • Work with DI Engineering to ensure that persona-appropriate portions of the delivered DP&S solution(s) are manageable, deployable, and extensible by either BW Platforms/Divisions or external customers, as required.
  • Work with DI Engineering to manage and iterate on a development roadmap with appropriate milestones.

Business Case and Go-To-Market Planning

  • Partner with Product Line Leaders to build commercially viable business investment case submissions and adeptly prioritize the right initiatives to achieve the greatest impact with the least amount of resources.
  • Define and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics and mechanisms to measure, audit and report product success and track performance against established targets including CX, business ROI, product performance. Analyze data and user feedback to identify customer experience related actionable insights.
  • Help prepare qualitative and quantitative business justifications with NPV, ROI, IRR, and payback periods.

Product and Project Management

  • Support BW Project Managers & Product Line Leaders to ensure digital innovation projects meet project goals and deliver business value within approved project budget & timeline. Provide performance feedback.
  • Help plan, support, and train sales & service teams through product launches and key customer interactions. Drive customer engagement, adoption and revenue growth through effective training materials.
  • Continue improving our world class digital product lifecycle management process & practices. Remain well informed on the latest industry advancements in lean product development methodologies.

  • Provide DI thought leadership, creative & critical thinking, and exhibit initiative with keen attention to detail.
  • Lead by example, foster teamwork and inspire team members to be customer and quality focused.
  • Show leadership courage, challenge stakeholders as appropriate & demonstrate conflict resolution skills.

  • Demonstrate strong written, oral communication and presentation skills with ability to proficiently articulate technical solutions & complex subjects to a broad audience with a coherent narrative in relatable terms.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or similar education or equivalent working experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in digital product development and/or digital program management role.
  • 5+ years of experience working and / or partnering with software engineering teams & external customers.
  • Experience or qualifications in high-tech anthropology, human-centered design or human-machine interaction is ideal.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful product strategies and drive revenue growth.
  • Experience with software/hardware/network/security engineering practices and patterns for the full product development life cycle, including build processes, testing, training, certification, live production support and subscription models.
  • Experience working with diverse sets of customers to responsibly gather and understand their needs and opportunities. Experience in usability and customer-focused designs.
  • Experience bringing greenfield and emerging technologies to market including go-to-market strategies for product launches.
  • Experience influencing, motivating & inspiring cross-functional teams without formal authority to achieve common goals whilst maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Experience with data management, analytics, business intelligence and/or data science related technologies for conducting analysis and making data-driven decisions to drive improvements.
  • Experience managing multiple large complex projects concurrently.
  • Experience with Agile & Scrum development methodologies.
  • Experience developing & delivering solutions for the manufacturing industry (discrete or process).
  • Familiarity with Portfolio and Project Management tools.
  • Familiarity with PLM, ERP, CRM, CPQ, and Service Management systems and processes.

Compensation

The approximate pay range for this position is $111,000 - $166,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.

Supervisory/Responsibility:

  • The team member is an individual contributor w/no direct reports.

Work Environment:

This is an office position at a major USA BW location or remotely based.  The employee must be able to correctly wear and use any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by the employer when visiting a manufacturing facility.

Position Type:

This is a regular, full-time position with the understanding that a regular workweek will require extended days and hours as needed to meet business needs.

Travel:

Occasional domestic and/or global travel may be required for this position up to 25%.

Physical Demands:

The employee sits at a desk and uses a computer for prolonged periods of time.  Performing the role frequently uses close vision, speech, hearing, and dexterity to operate office equipment.  The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
